Does anyone know if NBU 6.0 or 6.5 is compatible with MS Server 2008?  The latest OS compatibility list doesn't even list it?

Anyone even try to backup 2008?

Thanks.

Hi, did you get any answer for this?

This is a good place for homework  - a listing of all public NBU documents.

In there you will find this compatiblity guide
The only reference to 2008 is on the bottom right of every page stating something like : "Last Updated: Page 1 of 18 January 14, 2008"

Sometimes an email or phone call to NetBackup support (If you've purchased it) can provide the correct answer. Sometimes you need it faster. In those instances I call my salesman (who probably doesn't know) and ask for the questioned to be researched and an answer provided as soon as possible. Sales can usually tap into marketing/engineering to get you the answer.

SQL Server 2008 support is expected in 6.5.2.

Now that Netbackup 6.5.2a has been released, does anyone know if SQL Server 2008 is supported?  The documentation for 6.5.2 says nothing...

SQL Server 2008 is mentioned in the 6.5.2(A) READMEs.  For example:

Release Update NB_6.5.2A.winnt.x86.exe provides fixes to the Veritas NetBackup (tm) Enterprise Server / Server 6.5 on 32-bit Windows 2000/2003/XP Professional server and clients. It also contains fixes for NetBackup Add-on products and Database Agents.

 http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/305655.htm

Under the "Current New Features and Enhancements" section:

+  NetBackup for Microsoft SQL Server
  - Support for Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
  - Support for the backup and restore data contained in the SQL Server
filestream data type. The filestream data type allows the user to
manag file system data using SQL Server.
  - SQL Server file-based checkpoint/restart.

Oh man, we spelled "manage" wrong.  Smiley Tongue
