MSEO 6.15 configuration for media pool encryption

im new with MSEO configuration and have read through the admin guide but still not really understand the procedure for the MSEO .

i intend to configure to encrypt only the offsite pool which is from month end. it is possible to configure based on volume pool?

any technote or procedure to follow .

Hi,

Not an expert on this myself but this is how it works, basically......

• You install the Server somewhere, probably the master server, and create the policy you want, or use the default.
• You install the Agent on the media servers you'd like to use the encryption feature, and tag the drives so they can be used with MSEO
• You then create/update the NetBackup policies that you'd like to use by adding the <mseo> stuff to the keyword section. These settings basically kick the virtual encryption tape driver into action when bptm finds them.
• You can use it for all clients, or some clients, where ever you want, just add the keywords.
• From what I've read if the backup is encrypted it will de-encrypt it, and re-encrypt when doing a duplication. This is done autmatically when it finds the mseo header information on the tapes.
• If you for instance dont want to encrypt onsite backups you can create a specific policy to say only backups (duplications) meant for pool X, and that are copy 2, will be encrypted. So you can control what is encrypted and what not.

so by installation of mseo without any keyword configuration . The backup should run without any encryption right?

Correct, without the entry (in the Policy Attributes > keyword section) the backup will NOT be encrypted.

add a netbackup.pool variable rule to the default policy and it working .
