NBU6.0MP4 - Best practices to backup 2TB File Server (SAN connected)

hi,
we have one windows File Server with 2TB on SAN disks, 4 volumes.
Backing it up through IP is a 10MB/sec/volume, which could take over 2 days for a full.
I heard about some SAN-media server setup with NBU and the backup will go only over the FC network from the SAN disks through the File Server through to the tape drives.

Anybody tried this mystically setup?

Thanks a lot for your answers

Yes, many people use SAN media servers. You need to use a separate HBA port or card for the tapes.
If you have 4 volumes then I suggest a SAN media server with 4 tape drives attached.
Use multistreaming to send each volume to its own tape drive.

We use one larger volume 1,4 tb and do backup to 1 SSO LTO3 drive over SAN , the backup takes about 1 day and some more hours. we have changed some  buffers to improve speed.

Depending if you have a lot of files maybe the difference from moving from Network backup to SAN nackup will no be as big as you hope for.

If this server has lots and lots of little files, that you should seriously consider the Advanced Client and do Flashbackups,.  We typically see the elapsed time cut in half - volumes that used to take a day now complete in a half day.  We then write those volumes to a disk staging unit instead of directly to tape and the time gets cut in half again.
