NDMP Drive Configuraiton issue

Hello ,

We are facing one issue with NDMP.

We have configured the NDMP drives and storage unit through GUI. device configuration has been completed successfully. After that , we have started the backup on storage unit but not single drive is able to mount the media.

What needs to check from our end for NDMP as this is the first time we are facing this issue.

The libary could not load the tape into the drive "error requesting media, TpErrno = Robot operation failed"

Check that you're library is working fine. If you've configured the robot on another host, try loading and unloading the drives from that server.

Are the tape drives shared in SSO config? Do you have a normal media server as robot control host? If so, you can use robtest on robot control host to test tape mounts. Ensure bptm log folder exists on media server configured as NDMP media server (SF440) and increase logging level to 3. Check bptm log file for errors after the next failure.

Check system logs on the filer. (/var/adm/messages if same as 'normal' Solaris).

Also as per my previous posts - search Oracle web site for NDMP error codes for this filer.

One of the posts above pointed to network config on the filer NIC - IMHO, worth exploring.

I cannot see how you are going to fix this from NBU end - you need to work with Filer admins and support.
The fact that same NBU version is working well with other filers is proof the the problem is not with NBU.

Hello All,

As per technote from Marrianne mam , we have checked the setting from network end and found that , ICMP port  is blocking the traffic between NDMP and media server. After enabling the port , backup has started on its storage unit.

Thank you for your support.
