NetBackup 5.1 - Multplexing clients to single tape/drive

Multiplexing question -
How does one setup a backup policy to so that all of its clients will backup to a single drive (tape). The ADIC robotic tape I use has 4 tape drives. I don't want to restrict
robot to always multiplex - just for a policy or two.

You have to do following settings.

* Set Maximum Multiplexing per Drive(Storage unit attribute) higher or equal than the number of clients you want to backup into one drive.

* Check Allow Multiple Data Streams check box(in policy attributes tab).

* Set Media Multiplexing(in schedule attributes tab) higher or equal than ther number of clients you want to backup into one drive

For detail, see System Administrator's Guide, Volume I.

ALso the "Maximum concurent drives used for backup" (from the proprtites of a storage unit) should be set to 1 if your host are from different policies. Else when the other policy fires it will take any available tape from the pool.

Or you can add these hosts to a single policy.Message was edited by:

Hi,
you create a separate storage unit with one tape drive and specify maximum multiplexing based on number of clients
sending the backup streams . But specify the storage unit
in the policy attributes so that the backups will run on the drive only.
if i am not wrong there is no need to specify max concurrent drives for backup as one, because your storage unit having only one drive.
