Hello All,

I Understand that NBU 7 no more requires VCB holding tanks; but to backup a VM my master server must be a Windows Server (VM Backup Host), so does it requires any license to be pushed? i dont see the VMware Backup Host in my master server properties.

Any help would be very appreciated!!!

No requirement for Master to be Windows. The backup host must be Windows and can even be a client. The recommendation is that the backup host should be a media server.

You need Enterprise Client license on the Master server.

Extract from VMware agent manual:

Install the NetBackup 7.0 Enterprise Client license on the master
server, and install NetBackup client 7.0 software on the VMware
backup host.

also:

Symantec recommends that the NetBackup media server and the
VMware backup host be installed on the same host.

Marianne,

Thanks for inputs; Enterprise client makes the difference. One more question, if my master and media are running on Solarix box with a 4 drive library, as per Symantec's recommendation i need to setup a  Windows media server and share the drives?

You can either share the drives (SSO license required) or dedicate tape drive(s) to Windows media server. The 2nd option will oviously mean less drives on your Solaris master/media.
