Can you please advise what sizes can i split into 2 different filesystems for MSDP Cat and MSDP Data out of 58TB.

Please take your time and read NetBackup Deduplication Guide

The dedupe storage needs to be on a separate, dedicated filesystem.
It cannot be shared with NBU installation, OS installation or any other files/software.

Please carefully read through above manual and take note of all requirements - server cpu, memory, filesystem, disk I/O requirements, etc.

Hi,

You can have MSDP pool on the same server but its recomended to have seperate mount to create MSDP Pool.

You may like to review following articles to understand MSDP requirements and limitations.

In addition to above requirements, keep handy license for "NetBackup Data Protection Optimization". Read more at https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000072695.

Thanks.

Hi Pats

Thanks for reply on below note is it possible that i can create multiple directories on single filesystem and alloacate a directory for database and other direcoty for data ?

"Symantec recommends that you store the data and the deduplication database on separate disk, each with 200 MB/sec read or write speed."

Yes .. Correct. Infact you will be prompted to provide different paths for dedup database and data while you configure MSDP. You can keep one path for both items if you are not going to keep your MSDP too busy, but I insist you to follow best practises.

To major the disk performance, you can use Netbackup inbuilt "nbperfcheck" utility.

Hope it helps.

I beg to differ.

It needs to be a sepatate filesystem, preferrable on separate disk.

Just a different directory will not work.

Extracts from the Dedupe manual:

Symantec recommends that you store the data and the deduplication database on separate
disk, each with 200 MB/sec read or write speed. Neither should be stored on the system disk.

NetBackup requires the exclusive use of the disk resources. If the storage is used
for purposes other than backups, NetBackup cannot manage disk pool capacity or
manage storage lifecycle policies correctly. Therefore, NetBackup must be the only
entity that uses the storage.

The manual recommends SAN over direct attached and Fibre Channel over iSCSI.

Please do not try to take shortcuts with MSDP deployment.
Planning is the key to successful deployment.
