Anything "hanging around" in the staging directory? Or have you already managed to resolve your issue?
Did you check in the db/data folder for BMRDB files per Mandars suggestion?

File system full?
Maybe the following T/N is relevant:
GENERAL ERROR: The NBDB database transaction log (NBDB.log) may become too large or corrupt for proper NetBackup operation.
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH55797
....but you would've probably seen the last two manifest in general NB operations also & not just the catalog. So I would only follow this T/N if you can prove that it is the issue.
Do you use/have you installed BMR? It's obviously that db backup that it appears to be stuck on validating.
Maybe more info in the bpdbm log file?

Hi Andy ,
Thnks for the response . The backup was happening successfully till 3rd Nov , but it started failing from 4th Nov . There were no changes made to the system . Even the file system has ample of space.
root@murbkp007 # /usr/openv/db/bin/nbdb_ping
Database [NBDB] is alive and well on server [NB_murbkp007].
We are not using BMR .
Any suggestion pls.

Do you see any BMRDB* files inside data/db/ folder on your master server?
If these files are there and you are not using BMR, then please move them to any temp dir and try catalog backup again.
Thanks.
