Ensure you are logged in as root, ensure you have priviledges to access the package.
Also ensure /tmp and /var/tmp are writable to you (when logged in as root) and that there is enough space in them. /tmp should be write permissions (dwxrwxrwt) same for /var/tmp
ls -ld /tmp /var/tmp - what does it say?
df -k /tmp /var/tmp

Did you follow the instructions to use gtar to extract the NetBackup_7.5_CLIENTS.tar file?
See this TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH154080

What's in the install log (/tmp/install_trace.19651) ?
Could we see uname -a output?
Somebody else had this problem several months ago - don't know how it turned out, though:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/nbu-71-client-install-fails-solaris-10
I think revaroo's probably right that /tmp or /var/tmp doesn't have write permissions somewhere.

# ls -ld /tmp /var/tmp

revarro, what do you mean by right access to the package.

Hi Marianne, Still I'm getting the same error while using gtar version
# /usr/sfw/bin/gtar --version
tar (GNU tar) 1.23
08-16-2012 07:24 AM
eomaber, did you check the list of things I suggested as well?
08-16-2012 07:52 AM
# uname -a
SunOS WTAMM1 5.10 Generic_144488-08 sun4v sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise-T5220
# ls -ld /tmp /var/tmp

swap 46G 4.7G 41G 11% /tmp

I don't know whether the /var that belongs to / has enough space.

have you tried downloading the install again, maybe it's corrupted?
I personally think there is something with the system wrong, but I would try re-downloading the software

Can you re-try it after making more free space in /?
Are there any harmful alias in your shell? Run "unalias -a" and try again.
