Hi Experts,
I have a situation where my client backup is running fine without bpcd communication. As per my previous experience, it was my understanding that we must have two way commnication on master <--> client on bpcd & nvetd port.
My client responds to master server through vnet port but not through bpcd.
Master server version. >>>> 7.5.0.4
Client version >>>> 6.5.6
Thanks

Ur master server is 7.5 and NBU 7.5 needs vnetd(13724) and pbx 1556 only. So bpcd is not require any more
check this link out for more detail on Port usage :

****EDIT***
Please upgrade ur client to the master version. 6.5 is not supported now

Thanks rk1074 for sharing the info.
Here, we have issue with Database backup (RMAN). though the regular FS backups are running fine, DB backups are failing here.
Pls let me the port/service required for Database backup.
Thanks again.

Its RMAN backup
& below is the error , the client <--> server through the vnet if absolutely fine.

the client <--> server through the vnet if absolutely fine.
Clearly not....
Server Status: Communication with the server has not been initiated or the server status has not been retrieved from the serve
Please ensure that bprd log folder exists on the master server. If not, create the folder under /usr/openv/netbackup/logs and restart NBU.
Please check output of all of the following:
from master server:
bpclntcmd -hn <client-name>
bpclntcmd -ip <client-IP>
from client:
bpclntcmd -hn <master-hostname>
bpclntcmd -ip <master-IP>
bpclntcmd -self
bpclntcmd -pn
The last command (bpclntcmd -pn) will try to connect to bprd on the master via vnetd.
If no output is received, client is unable to connect or server is unable to connect back.
Check bprd log on the master to see if connection request is received from client's IP.
If so, check bprd log to see if master is able to resolve client IP to a valid hostname that exists in a policy.
PS:
You seem to be ignoring our comments about NBU 6.5.
Any particular reason why client is still on 6.5?

Hi Marianne,
Communication is absolutely fine. I could also see that on bprd log file on master.
And to answer your question on NB upgrade, it is being planned & project is already in place but that would require some time & we have to fix the current issue before that.
Client $ ./bpclntcmd -pn
expecting response from server master
Client.ebr.com Client 192.168.2.10 48660
Client $ ./bpclntcmd -hn master
host master: master at 10.86.189.35 (0xa56db22)
aliases: master master.com
Client $ ./bpclntcmd -ip 10.86.189.35
checkhaddr: host : master: master.com at 10.86.189.35 (0xa56db22)
checkhaddr: aliases:
Client $

master # ./bpclntcmd -hn client
host client: client.com at 192.168.2.10
aliases: client.com client 192.168.2.10

master # ./bpclntcmd -ip 192.168.2.10
