Phase 1 import question

Alexander_Harri

Hello,

How long does Netbackup keep the data from a phase 1 import? Is there a way to change that?

We're trying to import some images from LTO6 tape and it's taking a long time. We're finding that the phase 1 for the other images seem to expire before we have the resources to run the phase 2 of the import.

In case it matters, we're running Netbackup 7.6.

The retention after a phase one import is one week. You can change it using the bpexpdate command.

The retention after the phase two import is the original backup retention counting from the day of the import finishes.

Create NOexpire touchfile:

# touch /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/NOexpire on the master server.

See http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH136153

Remember to remove the file once phase 2 imports are done.

Be careful with this

"The retention after the phase two import is the original backup retention counting from the day of the import finishes."

It is the original retention level - if that level on the importing environment is different that the orginal, the experion period will be different.

Eg.

If retention level is 11 on on origanal system this is 3 years, but on importing system level 11 is 1 day, guess what will happen ...

Would I run this against the image or the tape that the image is found on?

yes, you can run it on both.

But after the phase two finishes the retention will be the original retention.

One more think.

If your backup you want to import span tapes, you have to finish the first phase for all tapes before you start the second phase.

Check the import logs if the first entry of the backup you want to import contains the "fragment 1" If it starts from 2 or a bigger number, then the beginning of your backup is on another tape. Or if the phase one of the backup image in question finish or continues to another tape.
This may be the reason you do not see a backup image when you search the backups for phase two.
