Quantum DXi 4500, OST and Concurrent Optimized Duplication Questions

I have two questions about using concurrent optimized duplication with Netbackup 7.5.0.6 running on Red Hat 5.10 and Quantum's DXi4500 series Disk Backup Systems.  I have configured two Quantum DXi 4520 units to use OST and Concurrent Optimized Duplication with Netbackup using a storage lifecycle policy.  When I look in the netbackup catalog I only see the orginial backup image, not the duplicated image.  I see that the duplication job completed successfully in the Activity monitor and see both backup and duplicated images listed in Disk Reports.  I'm just worried that netbackup isn't keeping track of the duplicated jobs.  

My second question is related to disaster recovery.  If the source or target DXi unit fails and is replaced with a new one.  How do I go about replicating the backup images to the replacement DXi unit?  Do I manage it though Netbackup or would I manage it though web console on the DXI unit?

How you are sure that there is only one copy? What is the command you are using?

try to run the folowing command

bpimagelist -backupid <backup id>

and check the FRAG lines. If there is a "FRAG 2 1" then you have two copies

For your second question, it is better to start a netbackup duplication from the old DXi to the new DXi.

From running this command, it looks like both the backup and duplicate images are in the catalog.  I see FRAG 2 1 and references to the storage servers on both DXi units.  I was using the catalog in the Netbackup GUI console and didn't see it in there.  Thats why I was wondering if there was a problem.   What does "FRAG 2 1" mean?

FRAG 1 1 = copy 1 fragment 1
FRAG 1 2 = copy 1 fragment 2
FRAG 1 3 = copy 1 fragment 3
....
FRAG 2 1 = copy 2 fragment 1
FRAG 2 2 = copy 2 fragment 2
FRAG 2 3 = copy 2 fragment 3

From the GUI -> catalog, you have to select the search criteria and then change the "copies" to copy 2.
By default shows the primary copy (usually it is the copy 1)

Thank you both for your help.  I found the "copies" search filter in the GUI catalog and found all of my duplicate backup images. 

My second question was what would be the best way to do a disaster recovery if one of the DXi units failed on me.   How would I replicate the images from the working DXi unit onto the replacement unit?  Is this something that netbackup handles or does this happen offline between the DXi units?

Maybe you should ask EMC/DD your second question. 
EMC will tell you all about the built-in protection features of DD. We have many DD customers and I have honestly never heard of complete unit failure losing all of the data.

In case of real disaster (e.g. building burns down), NBU will not automatically duplicate images to the new unit.

Problem is, according to NBU, images are still on the unit. 

My recommendation would be to initially use DD to replicate all data from the good unit to replaced unit, followed by phase I import on NBU. Images that are known to NBU will be skipped. This is to be 100% sure that NBU image catalog is in sync with actual images on the DD.
Assumption is that replacement DD will be configured identically to old unit.

Again - best to ask EMC as well for their thoughts...

There is no documentation for steps I have listed above - these are my own thoughts. 
Hopefully other experienced DD users will share their thoughts!
