Question concerning Advance Disk - data mover

Can someone help me understand something?  It is easily to see sharing file system structures under advance disk to multiple host (all access to read and write), the method it was designed for was NFS. CIFS is not support, but I am going to assume if you run NFS on Windows, this is possible?  But my real question is as such: What is the function of the data mover in Netbackup 7.X?  Do you configure storage pools to every media server and the data movers allow for you to have access to all local data on each media server to recover data from?

Example:

DiskA, DiskB -> mediaServer1

DiskC, DiskD -> mediaServer2

If you need to restore data from DiskA, but from mediaServer2, the data mover would transfer the restore from mediaServer1 to mediaServer2 and then to the client needing recover?  Is this how it works?

According to the Best practice for configuring AdvancedDisk, CIFS is supported as from NBU 7.0.1.

See the section under AdvancedDisk sharing for configuration steps.
