Quick question on backup data flow

Jeremy_Johnson1

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to find the answer to this in the admin guide. Assuming there are no FT clients or FT media servers set up, the Master server has the tape library zoned via SAN and all devices paths are configured using this method... would the below diagram for data flow be accurate?

Client -> LAN -> Master/Media Server -> SAN -> Tape Library\Drives

Or does it stay LAN only all the way?

Also, any offical documentation stating one way or another would be appreciated!

Thank you!

That looks correct to me

and from a NetBackup view (without getting too technical)

Client (bpbkar - sends backup data) -> LAN -> Media server (bptm child ) -> Shared Memory -> SAN -> Tape drive

I'm feeling technical ...

For a remote backup (client at end of LAN)

bpbkar > across LAN into TCP socket (on media) > bptm child > Shared Memory >bptm parent > OS > Tape Driver > HBA driver >SAN >  Tapedrive ...

For a local backup (no lan, eg, media server backing itself up)

bpbkar >  Shared Memory >bptm parent > OS > Tape Driver > HBA driver >SAN >Tapedrive ...

(Please do not move any solution from revaroo, he is correct, I'm just having a bit of fun ... )

Edited as I put the tape driver in the wrong place ...

Regards,

Martin
