Restore of files from file backup to a netapp share

On a Windows 2003 SP2 client, I have a request to restore a file backup of a large drive to a share on our Netapp filer

Have looked at technote and entries on the forum here

Have changed the Netbackup Services on the Windows 2003 Client to run with a user that is administrator on both the client and the netapp system

I still get status 2826 and

file_system_restore::tfs_writeopen_file_system: WRN - can't get file attributes for '\\?\U': (WIN32 123: Unknown error)

in the tar log.

Netbackup 7.1.0.2 on Master, Media and Client

Suggestions will be appreciated

Regards

Michael

When you re-direct use a UNC path and not a mapped drive letter - mapped drives are not supported - just guessing that U is a mapped drive?.

If it is an NDMP backup then you cannot restore that to a Windows Client - it must be an NDMP device

Hope this helps

Use UNC path : \\NASsever\sharename

Use Windows start button, type in share name and see if Explorer window opens.

Try to create some files as a test.

Is using \\netapp-filer\share

There was definitely reference to a mapped drive in opening post: '\\?\U': ' Please create tar log folder on Win server, retry the restore and take screenshot of restore parameters in BAR. Please post screenshot and tar log.

Rerun the restore with verbose 5

Have uploaded the NBAR settings and the tar log

The failures show (WIN32 123: Unknown error) which is generally a writes issue - still noty sure where the U comes from other than it does mention that some of the restored folders are set with Shares attributes.

Please double check the rights that the account you are using has - looking at it it will need to be a full domain admin to restore everything here

Number of errors in tar log such as:

WRN - can't create file: \\dk01fc0010\SCADMIN\Admin\auditTrunc2\truncAuditTabs.lis
...
WRN - can't create file: \\dk01fc0010\SCADMIN\Admin\auditTrunc2\truncAuditTabs.log (WIN32 2: Unknown error)

Are you able to logon to Windows server as user starting NBU Client Service, map network drive \\dk01fc0010\SCADMIN\Admin\auditTrunc2\  and create test-file (just right-click in folder, new Text file) e.g truncAuditTabs.txt ?

The error returned to NBU is a Windows error:  (WIN32 2: Unknown error)

Yes

the user is an administrator both on the windows server and the netapp filer. It is actually my administrative account.

Starting to think I should get our windows people to check the permissions on the original drive

The restore will reset files to have their original permissions - do you have a full domain admin account that you can use?

Are you able to create files in \\dk01fc0010\SCADMIN\Admin\auditTrunc2\  as suggested above?

Tried to restore to a newly created empty netapp share, this gave the same issue.

Maybe it cannot be done to a netapp share with the netbackup client for some reason

It still tries to set the rights (ACL's) on the files - if possible please try another account

Just to re-cap ... what sort of backup was the original - standard Windows / FlashBackup etc.

Thanks

Mark is correct about the ACLs:

It still tries to set the rights (ACL's) on the files

Please retry the restore without ACL (select 'Restore without access-control attributes')
