SAN Client backup configuration

Hi all,

i have a few questions about the SAN server/client configuration.

Now we are running NBU 7.6 on a windows 2012 server with capacity 30TB license.

We want to use the SAN backup feature.

We need to deploy a new media server (i understand OS: linux or solaris) for FT server configuration and with QLEs HBAs to support the features.

The Linux media server can work with the actual Windows Master server?

In your experience what requirements need we need to meet to solve this?

Thanks in advance

The Linux media server can work with the actual Windows Master server?

Yes. Mixed OS master and media servers are perfectly supported and works well.
The requirements for adding media servers is the same across all supported OS's and NBU versions:

  • Enterprise Server license key for the master and Enterprise Server license key for the media server.
  • Forward and reverse name lookup between master and media.
If Linux media server is not on DNS, you will need to add hosts entries on master, the media server and also all clients that will be backed up by this media server.
  • Port connectivity.
Master and media server need port 1556 (pbx) open in both directions.
Ensure OS firewall (iptables) is stopped and disabled on Linux media server.

As far as SAN Client requirements and config is concerned - see this list of documents:

Best to go through the SAN Client Troubleshooting Guide before you start, as it contains important requirements.
