SAN Client transfer rate

Hi

I have Tried San client for feasibility

I tried with FT RHEL 7.4 with HBA QLE2560 (1 port)

I connected it to client directly without San Switch connectivity

in Windows client transfer rate is 128MB/s. in Redhat client is more than 400MB/s!!! why? Hardware of client is same

another question is for clients should I use dedicate HBA for san client? or I can use 1 HBA for san client and SAN connectivity?

in my infrastructure we have not storage zoning. does it degrade performance of storage network. I have 15 Physical server, 20 ESX Host and more than 200 VM with 8 SAN

Thanks a lot

Firstly, there is more to it than just Client Hardware.
They run vastly different OS's, they have different filesystems, different applications that use resources differently.

Have you tried to test read speed from Client disk (e.g. bpbkar test)?

I am not a SAN expert - hopefully others will comment.
Just with my very limited knowledge - my understanding of SAN (Storage Area Network) is that there are no longer direct connectivity, but that that everything is connected via a switch.
How then are you ensuring dedicated access without zoning?

You may want to read through chapter 2 (Planning your deployment) of  NetBackup SAN Client and Fibre Transport Guide  .

This section also contains a link to a doc called 'SAN Client Deployment - Best Practices and Performance Metrics'.
It contains advice w.r.t zoning, Media server profile, Client profile, etc.
