SAP redo logs restore

Hi

I am pretty new when it comes to setting up SAP with Netbackup.. We are backing up SAP redo logs using SAP policy type, while trying to perform a restore I found out that SAP restores cannot be done via netbackup console. I want to perform a test restore of files which were backed up couple of days back. How can i get this done ?

I read the admin guide and it gives an example as below

brrestore -d util_file -b last -m full

I understand the command above restores the last full, but what if i want to restore from a specific date and time ?

Thanks in advance.

1: No. bprestore is for file backups. All database backup is internaly another backup type (proxy backups). Meaning Netbackup has integration with the application running the actual backup, in this case SAP Brtools. Netbackup is just a pipe for sending and reciving data.

2: SAP has a status page of avaiable backups. For each backup there will also be a backup progress file in /oracle/SID/sapbackup. That's the same file you specify while restoring.

You use brrestore -b xxxxxxxx.anf -m full where xxxxxxxx.and is the backup files create by brbackup and located in the sapbackup folder

Please do all the restore traning you can get away with. It will help the day you need to restore it for real :)

Hi Nicolai,

I went over the link you provided and the various examples shown.

  • brrestore -a 200-220

Restores the archived redo log files with the log sequence numbers from 200 through 220 into the archiving directory

I have the following queries.

1) Is there no way to intiiate the restore from netbackup ? using bprestore ?

2) Even in the above link the examples dont seem to help in a case where I am targetting to retore from a particular date rather than the last full.

Can you please advice on this scenario.

Thanks

If the backup was done with SAP agent using SAP br commands, you need to restore using SAP commands and utilities.
You cannot use NBU commands for normal filesystem restores.

For SAP and other agent backups, NBU is merely doing scheduling, media management and image catalog.
The DB or Application utilities is used for backups and restores.

You need SAP documentation for your brrestore queries...
