SQL IP.

Pros : Get rid of useless batches.

Cons : Modify the local GPO because NetBackup cannot use proper impersonate; exclude of databases from backup is not possible; adjust of vditimeout is not possible.

SQL IP greatly simplifies the process of policy creation and DB instance discovery, have a try on it and you should notice that immediately. It still creates script file at the end, and allow you to add certain SQL parameter - this also greatly avoids "typo" when editing script manually.

I would suggest for any new SQL host, use this IP. For existing SQL policy, wait till it's time to do migration or upgrade, and convert them to use IP as well.

One (and maybe the only) drawback of OIPs is that they dont allow Application Backup schedule types, thus you cannot initiate backups directly from SQL client. If you wanna to have this, you must have also traditional SQL policy with Application Backup schedule covering the time window.

Thanks for your responses, yes, exclude of databases from backup is a problem to us, for this reason, we use scripting backups... with the risks (human error ;)
