My question - does MICROSOFT support restore from SQL 2005 to 2008?

NBU read the tape, sent it to SQL, but SQL Server produced this error:

[SQL Server]The media family on device 'VNBU0-11044-9616-1308893466' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family.

I see that one user said to another user that it's OK. This does not mean to me that Microsoft said it's supported. You will know from experience on this forum that each user has an opinion - not every opinion is right.  The person who asked the question simply responded with "Thanks .... I will try this." never came back with "thanks - it worked".

I see no NetBackup error in dbclient log - just SQL error. Have you checked the Event Viewer Application log as well as SQL logs?

Thanks Marianne for your kind followup as usual.  As I had said above that I will try the TN which worked :)
