SQL status while running netbackup

I am running Netbackup 6mp1 Enterprise server, and I notice that the SQL service at the bottom of the screen is showing "Not Connected -\\".  When I try to start the service localy it continues to tell me that I am not connected. 

My questions:

1) Does this service need to be started?  (I know that in Backup exec it was always running)

2) How can I reinstall this if it needs to be running without hosing (destroying) all of my configurations?

Your question sounds like it pertains more to SQL than to NetBackup.

Are you running NetBackup and SQL on the same server or something?

Yes, the SQL service needs to be running in order for the NetBackup Client to be able to access the SQL server. I would check with your DB Administrator if you are having problems with SQL starting.
