Secondary DB File Groups not supported with Netbackup Sharepoint GRT Backups

Our customer is  using Netbckup 7.0.1  Sharepoint Agent  to backup  SharePoint 2007 environment,  SQL DBA and SharePoint Admin decided to add secondary database files on a separate disks.  The problem is that NetBackup does NOT support this configuration (Case #413-905-359).

What's interesting is that Microsoft supports Secondary DB File Groups and so does NetBackup but only for "Streaming" or database backups, not for GRT.  We are looking forward if Symantec Engineers can fix this this issue in the next patch or provide some quick binary fix for this.

Thanks,

Ravi

Hi Ravi,

Unless you are already aware:

NetBackup 7.1 adds two minor but important additional features - support for SharePoint 2010 secondary filegroups and the ability to redirect granular recovery of web applications to a different farm.

The link here describes the feature for some of the DB Agents.

Will SharePoint 2007 ever be supported?

Where did you get the idea that we didn't support SP2007?  It's definiltely listed in the compability list:

NetBackup (tm) 7 Database Agent Compatibility (Updated May 6, 2011)

I was referring to the support of Secondary File Groups. Roger's link above specifically mentions 2010. Are you saying 2007 is now also supported for secondary file groups with NBU 7.1?

Just to test, I ran the backup and it worked with SP 2007! I was able to backup and restore a single file with secondary databases. Nice.
