Running NBU 5.1 MP2 on Windows 2003. Is there a quick how-to for adding a new media server to an existing domain?

Thanks.

1. Install NetBackup server software on the new server.
2. Install the latest patch.
3. Make sure the bp.conf (registry) on the new media server has the name of the master server. And the master server's bp.conf has name of the new media server.
4. Create a new storage unit for the new media server.
5. Recycle the master server daemons
6. Create the tape devices on the media server or run "Dev config wizard"
7. Create policies/schedules to use this new storage unit.

Doug,

Take the tapes out of the shipping box.
Set them on your desk
grab the barcodes and stick them on the tapes
Grab the tapes that have the barcode on them and walk into the datacenter
Now open the door to the library, or the mail slot, (with new tapes I just open the door, it's easy this way).
Stick the tapes into the slots, hey dont forget to see if the the tapes are unlocked.
close the door
go back to your desk
open up the java console
click on Media and device management
now right click on Media
click inventory
click update volume radial buttton
click on emty media port
click start

Tapes are imported to the default pool "Netbackup"

Now you can move them around "within the database at will".

time to have a coffee!

How does this pertain to a new media server?

Well the quick of it is. Build your server. I prefer to make the Master Server the master volume server. This will be asked when installing the software. Hook the library up to the server and verify that the server can comunicate with the library. Install netbackup add patches. Add new storage unit.

I forgot. In the Admin Console under server properties or in bp.conf you have to add the media server as a server.
