Symantec enterprise vault and NBU

we are planning to buy Enterprise Vault solution for our Email Archiving. we are currently using Enterprise netbackup for our enterprise data protection.

Need your some help about to make them both working for us together smoothly.

1. As my understanding so far, EV will only store data to NAS storage such as NetApp, EMC Celera... is that true?

2. If we will need offsite copy of data, will we need a "EV agent" on NBU for other backup?

3. we do have another hospital image data, is the EV also good for archving these data?

2. for standard data protection purpose, we always need a tape copy send to IronMountain for DR purpose. Can we use EV to make this tape copy or we have to use NBU to do so?

You need to use NBU.  From my understanding , EV doesn't do anything with tape

3. we are currently using NBU to back up hospital image data such as xray, pictures.... we feel we should find a archive solution for this. Big chunk of data for each hospital (around 50~70TB), only have to make one full backup. the data normally located in EMC Centera. Is the EV right solution for this task?

EV may be able to do that, however you may want to post on the EV forum to confirm.

not true -customers that have their vault stores on a simple RAID array connected as the F: drive for instance.

what do you mean by offsite copy of data?  do you mean a replicated copy?  that is outside purview of NBU

You would only need EV agent on EV server connected to the data.  If it is merely replicated data in a storage system and not attached to an EV server, then we can't back it up.

3. we do have another hospital image data, is the EV also good for archiving these data?

Could you elaborate ?

wikipaedia not always definitive but this is a good description

Symantec Enterprise Vault (EV) is an enterprise file and email archiving program created by Symantec. It is part of the company's "Information Foundation" suite.[1] Enterprise Vault has the ability to archive from various sources such as Microsoft Exchange, SMTP devices, Lotus Domino, Microsoft Sharepoint and File Systems with the ability to store on a multiple of storage platforms, such as; NTFS, NetApp, Centera, CIFS and WORM.[2] The data archived is indexed, classified, de-duplicated and securely stored.
