Hello,
I'm adding 2 tape drives to my library and requested a quote for NB licenses. The supplier sent me the quotes below:
2 X SYMANTEC NETBACKUP OPTION LIBRARY BASED TAPE DRIVE - ON-PREMISE LICENSE - CORPORATE - PC XPLAT 1 DRIVE ONPREM STD PERP LICS
2 X VERITAS ESSENTIAL SUPPORT - 1 YEAR - SERVICE X 7 X 30 MINUTE - TECHNICAL - ELECTRONIC SERVICE BASED TAPE DRIVE XPLAT 1 DRIVE
According to my understanding, only the 2 first licenses are mandatory, the "essential support" ones are optional in case I want Veritas support for my tape drives, is that right?
Thank you.

No, they are not optional. For the first year you have to purchase both the product and support licenses. For subsequent years you may decide not to pay for support, however you are losing your entitlement for next NBU versions in this case (your current NBU version still will be licensed and compliant, you just won't be able to upgrade to next version)
