VMware restore file write error

Hi

I'm trying a Vmware restore using Netbackup 7.0.1 vStorage API. Am getting "file write failed" when the restore job is running. I have attached the error message captured from Activity Monitor --> Job Details.

Is this a normal behaviour for VMware restore?

Windows User Account Control is not letting NBU to save information in the server. You may try either of the below steps

  • Disable the UAC in Control Panel ->User accounts
  • Launch NB Admin console with Admin rights (Run as Administrator)

Hi,

Which account are you using to connect to Vcenter (i.e. which account did you enter the in credential section in NBU)?

The account most probably doesn't have enough rights/permissions in vCenter. The fact the restore works is not an indication it has enough rights. We recently had a situation where the VMware admin told us to use an account (his account) which was part of the Vcenter administrators. This group does not have the correct right in my opinion. Create a new account and give it all the rights you can select. If it works, I'll go look for the correct permissions to assign and let you know. Then you can trim it down to what is needed.

Tried your recommendations, but am still facing the same issue.

I'm using the windows domain administator account to connect to vcenter.

"virtual machine restore file write failed" gave a few results. Maybe worth a look?

Maybe give you something to go on? Sorry, no personal experience so apologies if these bear no relevance to your exact situation.
