VMware snapshot backup fails

I have an environment of 14 VMs for which the VM snapshot backup is scheduled(Symantec netbackup). For many servers I see the backup fails and the error says insufficient disk space. There is more than 15% free disk space on the servers. How much free space would be required approximately for the successful snapshot backup.
