The nice thing about Hot Catalog backups is having the ability to run at any time, whether a backup or restore job is running or not. The Master Server can be busy with other processes but this does not affect the Online-Hot Catalog backup.
Hot Catalog backup cab be duplicated and have the ability to span tapes.
Cold Catalog backups can only run by itself. No activity of any sort can be present. Cannot span tapes and should really only be used when there is a large span of innactivity on the Master..
I work in a 24x7 Hosting Center. Our window to perform backups has almost dissapeared. Hot Catalogs seem to be my only choice.
