Where data got deduplicated???

Hi

I've created small setup for based on customer requirement.

1 PureDisk Server

1TB of native SCSI disk attached to PD server + 1 TB of SAN LUN assigned to it

1 Master/Media Server on Windows 2008 ENT with Dedupe add-on keys (Same key which is used in PD)

I've configured Media Server deduplication pool on Master/Media Server to perform deduplication instead on PD.

Presently we are able to achive deduplication but unable to confirm WHERE IT TOOK PLACE.either at Media Server or at client side.

there is a check box while configuring policy to disable client side deduplication. but if i put that check i can't see the difference in terms of resource utilizing more at media server or at client.

Is there any way we can confirm where deduplication occured. .

Cheers

vaibhav

Hi,

Its probably not happening at the client as you didn't enable it. See the note on enabling clientside dedup.

Job with client-side dedup should contain something like:

Jul 14, 2011 6:00:52 PM - Info *someserver* (pid=31239) Using OpenStorage client direct to backup from client *someclient* to *someserver*

in job details. As far as I know, there is no other way to find out.

Remember - client-side deduplication is disabled by default and you will have to enable it for every client (master server properties, client attributes, deduplication location)
