backup failing with bpstart_notify failed (73) after upgrade to Netbackup v 7.5.0.4

Hi All,

We have a problem, we are backing up our oracle db and archive log (al)  using script (attached), for long are running fine. Just today we upgrade the Netbackup client from 6.5.4 to 7.5.0. then we encounterd this error( see bellow.)

Then I uninstall the upgrade and put back to version 6.5.4 but the error still the same. Any idea what went wrong? BTW the script was not made by me, what I know it is jut to backup the oracle db or al.

The netbackup server is 7.5.0.4  running on RedHat Linux the client running on Windows 2003 server.

One of the scrip called in bpstart_notify may return a error message:

If you run the script by hand on the client does it output a error message or warning ?

In addtion, you need to upgrade your client back to 7.5.0 and apply the 7.5.0.4 patch.

What OS , NBU and ORACLE version is running on the client ?

Do you use anitvuirs on the client ?

I think I found the problem:

• the bpstart script includes login to the oracle database, this is the one failed
• before we upgrade the Netbackup on the client to version 7.5.0.4 the Netbackup services running as user backupadmin (found out later) which has the priviledge to login to the db
• when we upgrade the netbackup to 7.5.0.4 the user for the services became the Local System (default) and this user didn't have the prviledge to query to the db.
• After we grant the permission, it is running fine.
