I would suggest that you patch your client to the same as master server version.

I have created the bpbkar log folder in the client windows server,
Please create bpcd log folder as well - this log should tell us if bpbkar process is started.
(Create folders under ...veritas\netbackup\logs)
Please tell us what is in Backup Selection for this client.
Also have a look at the Compatibility Guide for this OS. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76648
It contains the following footnotes:
PS:
We also see that this is an Incremental schedule.
Do you have a successful Full backup for client before Incremental was attempted?

Hi Marianne,
I have created bpcd log folder and initiated the backup, but it fails immediatly.
i ran the command bpgetdebuglog xyz-b bpbkar 012114 but it goes to next prompt did not show any logs.
One more update is
This server is windows 2008 SP2 and 32 bit and its a VM - got from windows team.

Forget about Incremental until you have successful Full backup.
Please supply following info in the meantime:
What is in Backup Selection for this client?
Is BMR selected in Policy attributes?
What is XP patch level and bit version?
Were any Exclude Lists added for this client?
01-21-2014 03:53 AM
I dont think its XP, its just tagged as XP in the policy.

Without seeing the policy and exclude list we cant really get anywhere
Could we see :
bppllist policyname -U
and the values contained in the exclude key located at: HKLM\Software\Veritas\NetBackup\CurrentVersion\Config\
on the client
Thanks
