I would suggest that you patch your client to the same as master server version.

I have created the bpbkar log folder in the client windows server,

Please create bpcd log folder as well - this log should tell us if bpbkar process is started.

(Create folders under ...veritas\netbackup\logs)

Please tell us what is in Backup Selection for this client.

Also have a look at the Compatibility Guide for this OS. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76648
It contains the following footnotes:

1. (IA64) NetBackup 7.5 and later does not support this Operating System on this CPU Architecture.
2. Windows XP Professional is supported on SP2 and forward.
3. NetBackup 7.x does not support Open File Backup on this platform. It is supported with back level NetBackup 6.x clients.
4. Reference Article: TECH32041 <http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH32041> for Windows XP SP2 firewall considerations.
5. NetBackup 6.5.x client required for BMR support on this 32-bit platform.
6. (x64) Bare Metal Boot Server is not supported on this platform.

PS:

We also see that this is an Incremental schedule.
Do you have a successful Full backup for client before
Incremental was attempted?

Hi,

Do you have a successful Full backup for client before Incremental was attempted?

Yes, full backup is attempted, it also failed with same error.

i will create bpcd folder and update the logs tomorrow.

Hi Marianne,

I have created bpcd log folder and initiated the backup, but it fails immediatly.

i ran the command bpgetdebuglog xyz-b bpbkar 012114 but it goes to next prompt did not show any logs.

One more update is

This server is windows 2008 SP2 and 32 bit and its a VM - got from windows team.

What is this part explains?

01/20/2014 20:26:55 - Info bpbrm (pid=15800) start bpbkar on client
01/20/2014 20:26:55 - Error bpbrm (pid=14168) client abcd.com aborted
01/20/2014 20:26:55 - Info bpbrm (pid=15800) sending message to media manager: STOP BACKUP

01/20/2014 20:26:55 - connecting
01/20/2014 20:26:55 - connected; connect time: 0:00:00
01/20/2014 20:26:55 - begin writing
01/20/2014 20:26:57 - Info bpbrm (pid=15800) media manager for backup id abcd.com_1390242392 exited with status 90: media manager received no data for backup image

Forget about Incremental until you have successful Full backup.

Please supply following info in the meantime:

What is in Backup Selection for this client?
Is BMR selected in Policy attributes?

What is XP patch level and bit version?

Were any Exclude Lists added for this client?

I dont think its XP, its just tagged as XP in the policy.

Without seeing the policy and exclude list we cant really get anywhere

Could we see :

bppllist policyname -U

and the values contained in the exclude key located at:  HKLM\Software\Veritas\NetBackup\CurrentVersion\Config\

on the client

Thanks
