In addition to above steps, please create bpcd log folder on the client (under ...\netbackup\logs) before running bptestbpcd on the master:
bptestbpcd -client <client hostname> -debug -verbose

Please post output of bptestbpcd as well as client's bpcd log. If no log is created, Windows firewall is probably preventing connection.

Run these tests to find out where the problem is:

From master server:

\bin\bpclntcmd -hn <cilent hostname>
\bin\bpclntcmd -hn <cilent's IP>
\bin\bptestbpcd -client <client hostname-debug

From your Windows client:

\bin\bpclntcmd pn    (this shall return your cilent host as recognized by master, error if it does not match)

If all the above are good, try disabling Firewall from your Windows client.

hi Watsons

first 2 tests produce the expected results

can you confirm the command for the 3rd ? : \bin\bptestbpcd -client <client hostname-debug ?

i could only find bptestnetconn.exe

bptestbpcd should be in netbackup\bin\admincmd.

As your client is Windows 2008 there is a good posibility it has a firewall turned on which is blocking communications

The bpcd log on the client will tell us if anything is getting through at all

Create the bpcd folder under netbackup\logs\ and then try to connect to the client host properties from the Master.

Once this errors then see if a log has been created and post it on here

If no log then it just never got that far and you need to look at firewall etc.

Of course - make sure the NetBackup Client Service is running on the client.

hi Marianne

thanks for that - its not connecting and nothing is in the folder on the client, i will check the firewall settings on the 2k8 server. I do have some other servers working so ill compare them.

Ill post results here when i have made some more progress

thanks
