error code 6- Vmbackup failure (virtual backup host)

Master - Solaris 10, Netbackup 7.6.0.3 (acting as media Also).

Backup host : windows 2008 R2, Netbackup 7.6.0.3 , virtual machine.

backup of one of virtual machine is failing with error code 6.

" ERR - Error opening the snapshot disks using given transport mode: Status 23"

what is the transport method you are using...?NBD?

if NBD, does the backup host have communication with ESxi host over port 902?

So, transport mode is probably hotadd?

Is backup host perhaps sharing same datastore as VM that is failing?

Have you gone through the 'Best practices when using HotAdd' in  NetBackup for VMware Administrator's Guide ?

In policy all transport modes are enabled, but from logs it looks like by default it is opting for nbd transport mode.

I checked I am able to telnet port 443 of vcenter, via which we have configured vm backups.

however Esx host in not used backup configuration and telnet to port 902 is not enabled.

I have a query, if backups are configured via vcenter, is it necessary to open port 902 on ESX host ?

yes, it is necessory to have the port 902 open between the esxi host and backup host

it does not have the communication over port 902, you need to enable the communication on the and try the backups.

Port 902 should be opened on firewall or ESX host.

it should be open in firewall/network end to allow the connection between the backup host and the ESxi host.

below command should connect from backup host,
