DOCUMENTATION: How to list files that are backed up on a particular client
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH94084
which uses:
bpimmedia to determine the images on the tape
bpdbm -ctime to decode the time
bplist to produce the list of files.

What kind of output are you looking for?
bpimmedia have different switches to make output more readable. bpimmedia is the only command to list images on media.
If you are looking for a command to list the actual files/folders on a specific piece of media - there is no such command...
bplist will list files/folders in the image if you specify the image timestamp with -d.
If you need to know which tape was used for clientX backup last night, you can use:
bpimagelist -client clientX -media -hoursago 24

What is your problem with bpimmedia? That is the NBU command. Have you tried the different switches (-L , -U)?

you want to see that bpimmedia is not providing then maybe we could offer some alternatives? (Altho' bpimmedia "does exactly as it says on the tin")

If you want to browse images for files - it's not possible using single command.

use GUI Reports, Images on Media
CLI would require a combination like Andy mentions above
