shm directory under /usr/openv/netbackup/config/db

Hi All ,

On solaris10 host ,i can see "/usr/openv/netbackup//config/db/shm" directory value as 512bytes ,where in hp-unix 64bytes .

With LTO-4 drives i can see 80mb/sec throughput with solaris ,where in with hpunix ,i am getting only 15mb responce .

bufffer_size and number_buffer vaules are at 256*1024 and 256 .

I am suspecting performance depends on "shm" directory .

Could some one suggest me ,which values in the kernle would effect "shm" directory size  and the steps to do it in solaris and hpunix .

Best Regards,
Chinni.

The size of the directory device file has no effect on backups. It is simply there or not there depending if you are using shared memory. Directory device files are different on different pltforms. that is all.

fine ,lets put in this way .

I have 2-media servers with same hardware and same platform running solaris10 .One with shm size as 64bytes ,and another is with 512bytes .512bytes size shm directory ,is performaing 80mb/sec .where is 64byets shm directory hold server running 30mb/sec .all settings and end to end fibre connectivity are unique .

Appritiate if you can make me more clear here with standard technical solution .

Search the knowledge base for "Solaris tuning" and you will see several technotes like:

DOCUMENTATION: Tuning Solaris 10 shared memory for NetBackup Media Server processes (bptm)

NOTE: there are more technotes that you will find when you search the knowledge base.

NOTE2: There is an entire document available to assist in tuning and finding bottlenecks.
