Hi to all,

I have configured a policy for synthetic backup but when I run the first synthetic it fails with this error:

16/04/2012 16:57:03 - Critical bpdm(pid=12076) sts_get_cred failed: error 3 emmerr 254
16/04/2012 16:57:03 - Critical bpdm(pid=12076) failure to open sts for storage server datadomain_bern.agositafinco.it: plug-in reports error 2060001 one or more invalid arguments
16/04/2012 16:57:03 - end synthetic reader 1; read time: 00:00:03
16/04/2012 16:57:04 - Error ReadExtents::giveEndpointStatus(pid=248) received end point error = media open error(83)
16/04/2012 16:57:04 - Error PlanAdmin::actionDone(pid=248) action failed, error=end point terminated with an error(610)
16/04/2012 16:57:04 - Error bptm(pid=1912958) media manager terminated by broken connection (SIGPIPE)
16/04/2012 16:57:20 - Error SynthJob::cleanup(pid=248) end bpsynth with status = end point terminated with an error(610)

I have  just run a normal full and many differential. Backup destination is datadomain.

The client is AIX 5.3 and it is even netbackup media server.

Netbackup version is 7.1

thank you for any help

"failure to open sts for storage server"

Let us take a step back - how was DataDomain configured on the AIX server?

Have you configured hosts entries on DD and AIX server for each other?

Have you installed OST plugin?
Have you configured DD credentials?
What does '/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpstsinfo -pi'  say?

I have installed OST plugin, and configured DD credentials

I have made backup full and differential many times

I didn't get this error for every stream but I get it randomly

that is bpinfo -pi output

i seem to remember that there was talk about synthetics overloading a DD device if too many ran at the same time

If it is intermittent you may need to just check all is well or reduce the number of things that can run to it at the same time - the intermittent part seems to be the clue so any tuning or STU fragment size change may help you

I am wondering whether Optimized is enabled or not on that disk pool and whether DD supports it?

Try giving us the output from: nbdevquery -listdp -U
