On the upper left of the GUI -Robot Inventory screen there are two pull down menus.
the first one must be the server that manages the robot, and the second one must be the robot he manages.

Check that they match correctly - when I had two robots I kept getting that error if I did not pick correctly.

Please give more info:
Which O/S?
Which interface - Java or Windows admin console?
What does the physical config look like - where are the devices connected? To the master or media server(s)?
Does the physical config and nbu config correspond?
Did it work previously? If so, what has changed?

Please post output of the following from the master and all media servers:
tpconfig -l

Or a screen grab of your error can give a lot of insightful info too. You can use insert image in your post.
