How do I recover rootdg?

simer
Not applicable
I have solaris 9 and veritas volume manager 3.5. I had rootdg configured on it's own lun on external storage (san). Unfortunately this lun was destroyed on the san. As a consequence, vxconfigd and vxdctl will no longer start (and most vx commands will not work). I have now had the lun recreated (as the same device). The rootdg diskgroup is still configured in veritas, but obviously doesn't exist on the new lun and all data it did contain is gone. Can anyone assist with how to get rootdg correctly recreated?

Run vxinstall.  Don't let it touch any disks other than the one you just had set up.  You can initialize that lun into the rootdg group.
