I just went for it and was able to sucessfully upgrade from 4.1 MP2 to 5.0 yesterday; my root disk is not encapsulated and the entire task took less than 90 Minutes for a two V440  node cluster.

You just have to make sure that you:

1. Unmount all VXFS filesystems

2. HAD is running.

Hi Alora, we did an upgrade from 4.0MP2 to 5.0MP1 a few days ago with several systems (we created a checklist for our systems, but this is internal use only :( ).
just take a look at the release notes for installing 5.0MP1 and additionally at the installation guides. http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/288455.htm

shortly:
- break rootmirror
- install 5.0
- install 5.0MP1
- install RP's
- install additional agents for 5.0 (e.g. SRDF) from the agent Pack
- reboot
- test
- sync rootmirror

if you need any further information, just ask.

greets

Björn

Do you also have Veritas Cluster installed? Did you do an install or an upgrade? Thanks

yes, we have vcs and vxvm installed.

if you want to install some rolling patches, read the readme-files before installing.

there are several rp's for vxvm, vxfs and vcs.

I have another disk group.

During upgradation Volumes in this group are unmounted and disk group is deported.

But when executing with upgrade_start script, its thrown with these errors

upgrade_start: Error: The mirrored disk c1t1d0 is also encapsulated.
It is not possible to have encapsulated mirror disk. Remove
        the unwanted directory from /etc/vx/reconfig.d/disk.d/
        and try again.

Disk rootdg01 contains more than 5
volumes which cannot be unencapsulated. Move some volumes
to different disk and try again

Basically in my setup rootdg is mirrored.

Above entires shows that we have to un-mirror the rootdg.

But i am not sure how to un-mirror this.

Kindly help me out in this.
