Have you tried the following:
- See if the system will permit an end-process VPROTRAY.EXE from within task manager.
- See if the system will permit a stop service of Backup Exec System Recovery Service (e.g. Vprosvc.exe) from within Windows Services.
If successfully stopped, with no error, then attempt to re-launch the BESR's service and the vprotray.exe process (e.g. Through windows explorer in the \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec System Recovery\Agent sub-folder). If; however, the system did get an error reply with what error messages and Windows events occurred during the attempt of the stopping/restarting the BESR service and process.
If successful, note the time, check the Windows event logs looking for that the BESR service started successfully event. Check the Windows events between each successfully restarting of the BESR service when the error had occurred to see if a pattern emerges of common errors or events.
Now that the service and process has been restarted, can the system launch the console successfully? If not what additional errors does the system get during the attempt? The same error? Does the system get the same errors when attempting to launch in a selective startup mode through the use of the MSCONFIG.EXE utility; to restart the system with only essential Microsoft and BESR related services and start-up processes?
