How to deploy BESR to a Microsoft 2003 Cluster?

Hello,

I am new to this product [because IDR just doesn’t work] and fairly new to cluster technology.

I have an a/p cluster running on 2003 Enterprise R2

Running Exchange 2003 SP2

Dell PE2950 [x2] + PV220S [DAS] [in case it make a difference]

Backup Exec 11d [fully licensed]

BESR option [30 day trial]

Separate front end server running 2003 R2

My question is this: When I select computers to push the BESR option to, I see both the cluster nodes, as well as the cluster virtual server, so do I push the option to nodes, or the virtual cluster, or both?

I have seen in other threads that I need to create the backup job from the active node, but could you not just create it form the virtual cluster?

Just need to figure this out so that I can run a few tests to see how well this works.

Thanks

Bruce

Hello,

BESR would need to be isntalled to each node in the cluster, both active and passive.  If you are protecting shared storage, this will need to be done by means of a backup job on the active node (since the passive node(s) won't see the shared storage volume(s)).

Thanks.
