Yearly Recovery Points

Normally i just go with the default of monthly - but I am wanting to put the backups up a fairly crap WAN link so really would prefer just to use incrementals as much as possible.

What are the downsides to using yearly's? Any gotchas? are restores slower or something?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Dave

Yearly baselines are not recommended.  There are two major drawbacks to yearly baselines.

1. In order to restore you would need to have the baseline and all the incrementals up to the point in time you want to restore from. Loading those would take a very long time.

2. If one of the incrementals fails then you will need to create a new baseline using up more space and requiring your to keep track of more backups.

One baseline per month is about as far as push out baselines.  Weekly baselines are generally the best way to go.
