error after restore to different hardware

Dell server. BESR 8.5. Imaged to hard drive on another PC. Test restore to different hardware.

The restore goes smoothly. I reboot the temporary server. It is going through Windows setup again. I receive an error part way through: "Setup cannot continue because an error occurred. For assistance, contact your original equipment manufacturer (OEM)."

I have restored to dissimilar hardware in the past. I don't recall Windows Server running through setup afterwards. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm a bit confused since every Restore Anyware recovery I have ever done has resulted in a mini setup of Windows afterward.  Unless the previous restores to disimilar hardware were done without invoking the Restore Anyware option, I'm not sure how you were able to avoid running through a mini setup in the past.

As for the issue you are now experiencing, possibly the the hidden -DED and/or -PFD options may be able to help.  They are most commonly used in continuous reboot situations, but may be helpful here

Please refer to this technote on how to access the "Delete Existing Drivers" and "Prompt for Devices" options.

If that doesn't work you could try an "install in place"
