Hello,
i recently did a fresh install of our Backup Exec Server, upgrading form 2012 SP4 to 2014.
I set up the jobs from scratch, installed the new agent on all servers, made a new Dedupe Storage, like i would start from the beginning.
Now i get this error message when i do a Backup to Dedupe:
0xe000842 A memory allocation request failed. The computer may be running low on virtual memory.
Insufficient memory available
I changed the location of the catalogs folder as described in this article: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH136965&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1419616285357
but it didn`t work out.
Backup to Disk works fine.
I tried it without the "Advanced Disk Based Backup" Option and this works so far.

When you say:
“I tried it without the "Advanced Disk Based Backup" Option and this works so far”
Is this in reference to backing up to disk, or when backing up to the deduplication storage?

Also, can you confirm how much RAM is available on the Backup Exec Server?

...i assume BE 2014 SP2 is installed?

always backup to deduplication storage

24GB are installed, 5 GB used.

No, Live update didn`t show me SP2, just a preparation update for SP2 which i installed

Thank you for your help guys, don`t you have holidays in this time? :)

Bugs,
I would recommend reviewing the best practice methods for deduplication which can be found here: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO74447
Also make sure the the PureDisk Filesystem Service is running under Local System account and refer to the following document for possible cause of failure

I would suggest to eliminate the advanced disk based option (ADBO) backups to deduplication as the main benefit of using ADBO is to reduce network traffic and saves space using synthetic backups rather then full backups.
Deduplication inherintly is designed to save space by only backing up new data and referencing already backed up data. When adding client-side deduplication this allows the processing to occur on the client and send only the data that needs to be added to the dedupe folder over the network. These two features that are a part of deduplication already grants the benefits of ADBO.
Memory usage is something that should be taken into account as well. You mentioned you have 24 GB of RAM. This would cover a dedupe folder with a size of around 13 TB granting 4 GB of RAM for the OS and other roles on the system (This information was gathered from http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO23357).
This is always something to take into account in the event that memory starts becoming an issue. Hope this helps.

I thought that one of the goals of ADBO is the ability to have the load of the backup job on the media server using the offhost backup.
My Deduplication folder has 9TB, the RAM should be sufficient.

That is one of the goals of ADBO. If you are only utilizing the offhost backup feature (not synthetic backups) then it should work.
Ensure client-side deduplication is not enabled for the backup definition as this will be counter productive to what offhost backups are attempting to acheive. This is in the Storage backup properties in the backup job. Switch it to server-side deduplication.
