Hello

i have the folowing problem at the moment:

i try to backup 3 folders:
/home/
/data/
/public/
in the selection list i see:

/home/*.*/SUBDIR
/data/*.*/SUBDIR
/public/*.*/SUBDIR

NO EXCLUDE i have checked twice

what happens is that the folders will be backedup emtpy :(
if i select the subfolders manually they get backed up.
but that's not a solution i can't search every day for new folders...

any idea?

After I posted a new message I found you message.
I am trying to solve the same problem, so I will keep track off this message.

If i find a solution for this problem, I will let you know.

SOLVED :)

the solution was:
at the job configuration i had to change some settings.
here is what i did:

in the general tab: select Full - Using modified time you can not use archive bit in Linux...
in the Advanced tab: in the open file backup when advanced open file option is not used: select Never.
in the Linux, Unix, and Macintosh tab: select:preserve change time and Follow local mount points

BTW: Follow local mount points was responsible for empty folders

I have tried the same thing you did, but unfortunatly it didn't solve my problem.
A big difference is that I am trying to backup a Windows 2003 R2 machine.

I found another solution to the problem. Now I am not backing up my local server, but a user defined entry, which points to the local server.
A good work-around, but not really a solution.

Serge,

Does this happen on all local backups?

Have you tried recreating your entire backup from scratch? Are you also able to properly resolve the server’s IP information when you do a nslookup from another server?

Also, what account is your Remote Agent for Windows Servers service using to log into the server?

Collin,

It does not happen on all local backups. Appearently it only happens on the local folder where the CPS is copying its files.

When i create a new job, it still won't backup the files.
What do you mean by recreating a entire backup from scratch? Is that a new job, or reinstall the software again?

Nslookup resolves the correct ipnumber and the services are running with a domain admin credentials.

Can it have to do something with CPS?

Serge,

It absolutely has to deal with CPS. Backup Exec will not backup a CPS location while the CPS services are started.

There are two methods to backup the CPS location.

First (and recommended) option is to select the backup through the CPS protected resources components on the server.

The other option is to shut down the CPS services down when running the backup.

Please see the CPS Administrator’s Guide page 115 for how to backup CPS data (accessed by clicking Help > Administrator's Guide in CPS or http://support.veritas.com/docs/285371).

Let us know if this helps.

Same problem here, I think it has something to do with Windows Server R2.

I've done many things to get my hands on this issue, not successfull. Currently I'm using Backup Exec v10d (downgraded from 11d), installed on a SBS 2003 R2 server. The configuration is brand new, it's a complete fresh installation and trust me, I'm pretty good at troubleshooting.

I've hot this fealing it has something to do with the R2 release, some facts:

- SBS 2003 R2
- Exchange Backup on the same server is running fine
- Only directories are backed up, not the files within
- I'm not using CPS
- I'm not using DFS
- Installed all available updates and pathes
- only a few kilobytes are backed up, job status is 'successfull'
- Serge's workaround does not work for me
- I'm using MSDE
- I created a dedicated (copy of administrator) backup exec account, which is being used by all BE services

Help me out of this, I desperately need some help!

Harold

Some more information:

- the default windows backup application works fine: files are backed up successfully
- it does not matter wheter I use a tape device or a backup-to-disk folder
- the job log allways contains the message 'This backup set may not contain any data.'
- the job log says 'Backed up 0 files in x directories'

I assume there's enough facts here to help Symantec solve this issue...

A guy named 'Gerard' replied to another thread, his colleague solved this issue by disabling the Active File Exclusion, see:

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/259152.htm

It worked for me too!
