12.5 HP MSL 4048 Tape Library, win 2008

Hi,

I have a new build on windows 2008 64bit on a HP Blade which has fiber connections to a MSL 4048 Tape Library. This is the first time I have used tape libraries and I am getting quite a few problems with configuring it to work. I have run live update and installed all the updates and also updated the Tape robots drivers through device manager and everything is up to date.

I have tried running an inventory on the slots and I get the following error "The job has reported multiple errors"

I understand that I need to allocate the media to the different media sets I need i.e. Monday, Tuesday etc... Is this the best way to identify what tape you would like to backup to in the library?

I am new to this so please forgive me if I don’t make sense

Regards
Matt

"The job has reported multiple errors" - Did you look at the job log to see the errors? If so what where the errors?

You do not need to allocate media to different media sets for different days of the week, this is really going to depend on your companies media retention policy.  Once you have defined how long you need to keep your tapes for before getting overwriten this will define your media set.  Here is a nice long article on Media Management.  http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/192265.htm
