I've read many support documents and this entire thread in trying to get an idea as to why I'm seeing what I'm seeing.
I have 2 servers at 2 different sites not on the same network doing the same thing.
Both servers are Windows 2000 SP4, running Backup Exec 8.6 (installed from the same CD). Both are using DDS4 tapes to backup data.
Both sites need to backup approximately 35GB of data. This has been fine for months up until a few weeks ago. Site 1 hit a maximum capacity of tape, and was asked for a 2nd tape. This is fine, as we evaluated what needed to be backed up, made the changes and they are now backing up 18 GB of data.
Site 2 hit a maximum tape capacity at 32GB of data, causing a request for a 2nd tape. I was able to reduce the amount of data backed up to 22GB.
The issue is this - At Site 1 - they cannot go past the 21GB mark without requesting a 2nd tape. I've replaced the tape drive, bought new tapes, reinstalled 8.6 clean, and installed the version 10 Eval to a new directory - no help in any case. 21GB - new tape.
At Site 2 - they back up to 25GB and request a new tape. I've tried brand new tapes only here - same issue.
So, my obvious question is this - why were both sites backing up over 30GB of data daily for weeks at a time, run into a capacity issue, are now backing up LESS data, and still requesting 2 tapes?
Site 1 has new hardware - new install - new tapes
Site 2 is the same config as it was last month when it worked fine - only new sealed tapes were used to fix an assumed bad tape issue.
Thank you very much in advance for your time.
