Adding remote VTL for Disaster Recovery?

Hi All,

I'm releatively new to BE, so wasn't here when it was originally set up, so bear with me!

I'm trying to create and test a DR process for our remote sites. We (core) and each of the remote sites use BE12or15 which uses a VTL on HP Storeonce, which then replicates back to core overnight (D2D). Core has it's own HP Unit which is used for VTL and replicated offsite.

What I want to know is whether I would be able to:

  • access the remote site's VTL and add to our instance of BE to perform recovery - if so How?
  • access replicated data on our D2D in order to perform a restore of data at core - I know i can push the Data back to the site - but what if there is no appliance to push this down to?

To share normal tape libraries so that you can access them from another BE server, you would need to have CASO and SSO.  Both of these options are licenced as part of ESO.

I am not sure whether VTL is shared the same way as normal tape libraries, but for sharing you need a minimum of CASO.
