I am evaluating BE 11d for Windows Servers and simply plopped in 1 dds-3 tape into an HP 1557A, 1st slot of magaine, ran a backup on local machine's C: drive, set the job for tape verify after write and here is the report:

Also, I have MANY known good tapes (write protected of course) tapes from BE v8.0 and v8.5 and EVERY SINGLE TAPE IS CLAIMED TO BE INCONSISTENT READS!?!?!?!?

I also note that there is an "error" in the Computer->Manage->Removable Storage->Physical Locations->HP C1557A with a red-circled-X but not sure if that is a problem since it appears that BE 11-d was able to do an Inventory of the tapes, but failed to catalog the tapes, failed to read the tapes after a backup, and so on.

What information do you seek that will help Semantec to resolve this problem?

I think my next step is to get a competitor backup trialware product and see if theirs works then I would know if it is my hardware or if it is a BE 11d software problem....

I will report my results here when I am done...

Are you using the BE drivers?

Also make sure you are patched

be6235RHF2_32bit_285704.exe
be6235RHF6_32bit_286044.exe
be6235RHF8_32bit_286521.exe

one of the patches (6 I think) is a driver upgrade.

Hi Dan,

I'm experiencing the same issue too: data can be writen on tapes but backups before v11d cannot be read from. The only restore job that works is when restoring from B2D folders.
Will now try to backup and rebuild the catalogs, unfortunately cataloging tapes results in a crash of the job engine..
