BE 12.5, Tandberg Data T40+ and Partitions

We just recently bought a T40+ library with 2 drives in it. There are 4 tape slots in this unit, and I am wanting to partition the unit this way:

Top 2 slots, Left and Right, each hold 8 tapes for a total of 16. Left side is tapes 1-8, and the Right side, tapes 21-28.

I want to have that as one partition for a 2 week rotation off site, and the bottom slots, which are tapes 9-20 and 29-40,

as the other partition for a monthly rotation. Can someone assist me, or direct me to a "how to" on here?

Thanks for your time!

Tim

Partitions you can configure from Tandberg library front panel or web console.

From menu enter into setup and goto partitions.

Coming to configuring rotation policies, you can confgiure retension periods while creating media sets in BE. When you set up robotic library partitions, Backup Exec creates a device pool for each partition. While creating jobs, assign media sets to the jobs and target them to the device pools created for different partiitons by BE.

You can read much about using partitions robotic libraries in pg no 476 of admin guide..

I created the partitions in the Tandberg T40+, yet nothing shows in BE 12.5

Do I need to restart the server, the program, run an inventory?

Have you configured the library in BE?

I guess that's what I need to do next. Create the partition in BE correct?

You can also configure partitions from Backup Exec.

Try this.. From admin guide

To create robotic library partitions

1 On the navigation bar, click Devices.

2 Expand the server icon.

3 Select the robotic library containing the slots that you want to partition.

4 Under Robotic Library Tasks in the task pane, select Configure partitions.

5 Select the robotic library slots to include in each partition by clicking the slot

on which each new partition should begin.

6 Click OK after configuring the partitions.

7 Click Yes to accept the partitions.

Hope this helps...

Since you have 2 tape drives in your new library, did you install an additional Library Expansion Option (LEO) licence?

...if you work on a hardware level, BE is most likely not aware of any changes...
